Alljährlich am S. Juli wird in Venezuela der Nationalferiertag begangen. An diesem Tag im Jahr 1811 erklärten in Caracas die Vertreter der vereinigten Provinzen von Venezuela ihre Unabhängigkeit von Spanien und begründeten die erste Republik in den Grenzen des seit 1777 bestehenden Generalkapitanats. Die venezolanischen Unabhängigkeitsbestrebungen gelangten aber erst mit der Abspaltung von Großkolumbien im Frühjahr des Jahres 1830 zu einem Abschluss.
