Die Politik hat immer wieder versucht, durch kommunikative und volkswirtschaftliche Maßnahmen Einfluss auf die Stimmungen und Verhaltensweisen der Konsumenten auszuüben, um damit die Binnenkonjunktur positiv zu beeinflussen. Der Erfolg solcher Maßnahmen ist strittig. Er stellt sich jedoch umso schwerer ein, je weniger die emotionalen und sozialpsychologischen Wahrnehmungen der Bürger als Äußerungen einer „öffentlichen Gefühlslage“ berücksichtigt werden. Der Beitrag zeichnet anhand kontinuierlicher Umfragedaten Entwicklungen von Konsumklimaindikatoren in Deutschland nach und stellt ein neues Modell zur Beschreibung des emotionalen Klimas in der Bundesrepublik vor, das er in seinen Grundzügen aus zentralen Ansätzen der Emotionspsychologie entwickelt.
