Eine der Zielsetzungen kritischer Arbeiten zu Heteronormativität ist es, die normalisierte Beziehung von biologischem Geschlecht, sozialer Geschlechteridentität und heterosexuellem Begehren ins Wanken zu bringen und eindeutige Zuschreibungen von Begehren, Geschlechteridentität und sexueller Orientierung zu hinterfragen. Dafür gibt es eine Reihe verschiedener Ansatzpunkte.
