Auf diese Weise beschreiben zwei, im Rahmen von familiengerichtlichen Begutachtungen befragte Kinder ihr unmittelbares Erleben von Situationen, in denen ihre Mutter Partnergewalt erleben musste. Generell schildern Kinder Angst, Mitleid, Erstarrung und Hilflosigkeit, wenn sie über ihre ausgeprägten Gefühle in Situationen von Partnergewalt sprechen (z.B. Ericksen & Henderson, 1992; Mullender et al., 2001; Strasser, 2001). Diese von Kindern empfundene Belastung, Verunsicherung und Überforderung angesichts miterlebter oder in ihren Folgen sichtbarer Gewalt erscheint Fachkräften und Laien in der Regel gleichermaßen gut nachzuempfinden und ist kaum Gegenstand von Kontroversen. Weit weniger einheitlich ist die Einschätzung von Öffentlichkeit und Fachkräften hingegen, wenn es um die Frage geht, inwieweit Partnerschaftsgewalt über das belastende unmittelbare Erleben hinaus eine Gefahr für das Kindeswohl darstellen kann, also geeignet ist, die Entwicklung betroffener Kinder in erheblichem Ausmaß zu beeinträchtigen. Genau deshalb steht diese Frage im Mittelpunkt des vorliegenden Beitrags.
