Max Weber und die Emergenz. Ein Programm eines nicht-reduktionistischen Individualismus?

In jüngerer Zeit entwickelt sich innerhalb der soziologischen Theoriediskussion ein Interesse an einer vertiefenden Klärung des Emergenzbegriffs. Diese ist aus drei Gründen interessant. Erstens beruft sich eine Reihe von Sozialtheoretikern auf diesen Begriff (Sawyer 2001; 2005). Zweitens versprechen emergenztheoretische Erwägungen eine Klärung der Mikro-Makro-Unterscheidung (Heintz 2004). Drittens kann eine Diskussion der Emergenzbehauptung dazu beitragen, die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Handlungs- und Systemtheorie zu bestimmen, denn Talcott Parsons und Niklas Luhmann begründen die Notwendigkeit, soziale Systeme von psychischen Systemen zu unterscheiden, nicht zuletzt durch das Argument, dass erstere auf letztere nicht reduziert werden können (z.B. Parsons 1951: 6; 1959; Luhmann 1988: 167f.; 1994).
