Stadt der Quartiere? Das Place-Konzept und die Idee von urbanen Dörfern

Zusammenfassung

Quartier und Place – zwei zentrale Begriffe der (sozial)wissenschaftlichen Stadtforschung: Der eine als mögliche Betrachtungsebene urbaner Prozesse und der andere als Konzept für komplexe räumliche Beziehungen. Beide Konzepte wurden vielfach in der Raum- und Stadtforschung rezipiert, so dass sich fruchtbare Schnittstellen vermuten lassen. Ich sehe diese in erster Linie im Transfer theoretischer und methodologischer Kernpunkte des Place-Konzeptes auf die Quartiersforschung. Um diese Verknüpfung zu verdeutlichen, werde ich sie beispielhaft an einem gegenwärtigen Trend, der Fragmentierung urbaner Räume, darstellen und erörtern, (1) ob Stadt als Gesamtheit fragmentierter Teilräume und damit als „Stadt der Quartiere“ gedacht werden kann und (2) wann und inwiefern diese Quartiere als „urbane Dörfer“ zu verstehen sind.
