Zusammenfassung

Wirtschaftliche Transaktionen sind stets mit einem Vertrauensproblem konfrontiert, das auf verschiedene Weise gelöst werden kann: durch wiederholte Geschäftsbeziehungen, institutionelle Regeln (z. B. die Hinterlegung einer Kaution) oder durch Reputation, d. h. die Kenntnis früherer, geschäftlich relevanter Handlungen eines Partners. Das Vertrauensproblem und verschiedene Lösungsmöglichkeiten werden im ersten Abschnitt behandelt. Im zweiten Abschnitt wird Reputation auf Märkten in historischen und gegenwärtigen Gesellschaften vorgestellt.
