Zusammenfassung
Place identity wird vor dem Hintergrund philosophischer, narrativ-psychologischer und soziologischer Identitätskonstrukte diskutiert. Es zeigen sich verschiedene Stränge, die sich durch den Diskurs ziehen. Es gibt erstens im „Daheim-Sein“, im „Drinnen-Sein“ einen identitätskonstituierenden Akzent, der im „Draußen-Sein“, im „In-die-Fremde-Gehen“ einen Gegenpol hat. Diese Dimension des Bedürfnisses nach Heimat und deren Verlust in der Fremde zeigt das Bedürfnis nach Ruhe, Stabilität und Sicherheit. Zweitens ist im place identity-Diskurs eine Entwicklung von der Moderne zur Postmoderne auszumachen. Aus der Enge der modernen Kleinfamilie und mit wachsendem Wohlstand entwickelte sich in den westlichen Ländern das Bedürfnis, in „die Fremde“ zu gehen und im „Draußen-Sein“ Identität zu entwickeln und zu stärken. Im Rahmen der Globalisierung wird drittens durch die Vielfalt sozioökonomischer Möglichkeiten, multikulturellen Zusammenseins und neuer regional-räumlicher Interaktionen das „An-einem-Ort-Sein“ aufgeweicht, das an „Vielen-Orten-Sein“ ausprobiert und etabliert. Diese Aspekte spielen viertens in der Wahrnehmung, der Aneignung, der Wiedererkennung und Identitätsentwicklung von Orten eine wichtige Rolle. In den heutigen Patchwork-Identitäten wird jeder für sich einen „stabilen Hintergrund“, wie z.B. eine Landschaft, für die Selbstentwicklung suchen und als Projektionsfläche gewisser symbolischer Aspekte brauchen. In diesem Prozess ist das Erzählen, sind die place-Narrationen in der sozialen Interaktion zur Symbolbildung und Selbstentwicklung identitätskonstituierend.
