Zusammenfassung

The starting block for sprint races was invented in 1927 but only began to be used at the Olympic Games in 1948. How did the athletes start in the sprint races before that time? We know that in Ancient Greece there were interesting starting systems, and later athletes made holes in the track which later were substituted by starting blocks, as will be shown in this text.
