Zusammenfassung

Eines der Themen, mit denen das australisch-amerikanische Wissenschaftlerpaar Geoffrey C. Bowker (1953) und Susan Leigh Star (1954–2010) sich fast durchgängig befasst haben, war die soziale Konstruktion von Standards und deren Bedeutung als interaktive Ressource vor allem in wissenschaftlichen und technologischen Prozessen des Klassifizierens, aber auch im alltäglichen Umgang mit Informationsinfrastrukturen. Der Aufsatz zeichnet die (unterschiedliche) intellektuelle Herkunft und die Werkgeschichte der beiden ForscherInnen nach und führt in ihr gemeinsames Hauptwerk „Sorting Things out. Classifications and its Consequences“ ein.
