Zusammenfassung
Media Relations sind ein Kernstück des Krisenmanagements. Denn die Beziehungen von Organisationen zu den Medien beeinflussen die medial vermittelte Krisenkommunikation, die ihrerseits wieder auf den Verlauf der Krise Einfluss zu nehmen vermag. Dieses Kapital referiert verschiedene Ansätze, die für ein Verständnis der Media Relations in Krisensituationen relevant sind: die Forschung zum journalistischen Umgang mit Quellen, zum Gatekeeping und Agenda-Building sowie zum Framing. Aus der Zusammenschau dieser Forschungsansätze und entsprechender Untersuchungen werden Erkenntnisse für die Praxis der Media Relations generiert, vor allem aber Anregungen für weitergehende Forschung und theoretische Überlegungen abgeleitet.

Im deutschsprachigen Raum existieren weitere theoretisch angelegte Entwürfe, die selten unter dem Namen Media Relations firmieren, diese aber zumindest indirekt zum Gegenstand haben. Von der Luhmann'schen Systemtheorie geprägt, befassen sich diese Entwürfe vorrangig mit den strukturellen Beziehungen der Leistungssysteme Journalismus und PR (Hoffjann, 2007; Löffelholz, 2000; Weber, 2004).
