Die Medienlandschaft und öffentliche Meinungsbildung in Südafrika in Zeiten der Transformation

Zusammenfassung
Seit 1990 hat Afrikas Mediensystem mehrere Phasen durchlaufen. Zu Beginn der 1990er war das Mediensystem noch geprägt von der Konkordanzlogik der Apartheid. Eine zweite sog. interregnum-Phase dauerte von 1993 bis 1996; in dieser Zeit teilten sich die National Party (NP) und der African National Congress (ANC) das Land auf Basis von Machtabsprachen. In dieser interregnum-Phase erlebte die Pressefreiheit südafrikanischer Journalisten so etwas wie einen „Prager Frühling“. Eine dritte Phase, in der der ANC die Vorherrschaft innehatte, bildete sich nach dem Ende der Regierung der nationalen Einheit ( Government of National Unity – GNU) im Jahr 1996 heraus.
