Nach Hans Kuraths Linguistic Atlas of New England (1939–1943; reprinted 1972) und Harold B Allans Linguistic Atlas of the Upper Midwest (1973–1976) liegen nun die beiden ersten Faszikel des Linguistic Atlas of the Middle und South Atlantic States (LAMSAS) vor, die Raven I. McDavid, Jr., und Raymond K. O’Cain herausgegeben haben; Hans Kurath ist der Direktor des großen Gesamtwerkes Linguistic Atlas of the United States and Canada. Vier weitere Atlanten stehen vor der Vollendung: die North-Central States, California and Nevada, Oklahoma und die Gulf States. Was 1929 von Hans Kurath begonnen wurde, setzen seine Schüler und Nachfolger nun auf eindrucksvolle Weise fort.
