Zussamenfassung
Der Anglizismus»Festival« taucht im deutschsprachigen Raum ab der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts vermehrt auf. Er wurde zunächst nur für größere Musikveranstaltungen abseits der Kunstmusik verwendet. Dies korrespondiert mit der Beliebtheit von Musikfestivals im Bereich Jazz, Pop, Rock und Folk während der 1960er Jahre im anglophonen Sprachraum, durch die sowohl das Wort als auch das Event in andere Länder und Kontinente exportiert wurde.
