Der ältere Positivismus (Comte, Mill) war ein reiner Empirismus: Ein Satz sollte nur dann „wahr” genannt werden dürfen, wenn er sich empirisch begründen ließ — wenn sieh also seine Wahrheit auf die nur „erfahrbare” Wahrheit von Elementarsätzen zurückführen ließ.
