Geschlechter- und Körperkonstruktionen nehmen für die Interpretation von Herta Müllers Werk eine Schlüsselposition ein. Patriarchalische Geschlechterbeziehungen, hegemoniale Ökonomien der Sexualität und misogyne Weiblichkeitsentwürfe werden in Müllers Prosa als Instrumente männlicher Machtansprüche entlarvt, aber nur selten von den Erzählstimmen reflektiert oder explizit kritisiert.
