Sebalds Entwicklung als Autor ist es sicherlich hilfreich, wenn sie unter folgender Prämisse geschieht: Während der Kontext, in dem Sebald schrieb – ob als Akademiker oder als Schriftsteller – bestimmend für den Stil und die Machart seiner Texte ist, bildet das Schreiben selbst deren gemeinsamen Bezugspunkt.
