Zussamenfassung
Die Epoche der Aufklärung galt lange Zeit als eine protestantische Angelegenheit, der Katholizismus dagegen als vormodern und antiaufklärerisch. Insbesondere die jüngere Josephinismus- und (Volks-)Aufklärungsforschung hat jedoch deutlich machen können, inwiefern sich auch der Katholizismus der Aufklärung öffnen konnte (vgl. Pranzl 2008).
