Zusammenfassung

Trauer bezeichnet einerseits ein schmerzliches Gefühl oder eine Stimmung der Gram, die sich als Reaktion auf einen Verlust einstellt, andererseits auch einen längerdauernden Prozess der seelischen Verarbeitung dieses Verlustes. Trauer durchläuft damit in der Regel verschiedene Phasen, die von der akuten Belastungsreaktion bis zur gelingenden Bewältigung reichen, aber auch durch depressive Reaktionen kompliziert sein können. Dies hat mit der komplexen, widersprüchlichen Struktur der Trauer zu tun: Trauernde befinden sich in einem Konflikt zwischen der realen Abwesenheit und der immer noch empfundenen Anwesenheit des Verlorenen, mithin in einer ambivalenten Situation zwischen Gegenwart und Vergangenheit – eine Ambivalenz, die sich häufig auch in einer Zerrissenheit zwischen Anerkennung und Verleugnung des Verlustes manifestiert.
