Zusammenfassung
Max Weber hat eine eigenständige Geldtheorie weder hinterlassen noch beabsichtigt. In Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft (Kap. 2), wo sich seine zentralen Aussagen zu Geld und den sozialen Folgen seines Gebrauchs finden (vgl. aber auch WuG, 382 ff. und Wirtschaftsgeschichte § 6 »Geld und Geldgeschichte«, RS I, 536 ff.), betont er ausdrücklich, keine Geldtheorie erarbeiten zu wollen. Laut eigener Auskunft stützt er sich in Sachen Geldtheorie hauptsächlich auf Mises und Knapp, die allerdings stark gegensätzliche Geldauffassungen vertreten haben.
