Zusammenfassung
In Kleists Erzählung ›Michael Kohlhaas‹ sucht der Protagonist den Reformator Martin Luther zu einem Gespräch auf, nachdem dieser Kohlhaas’ Selbstjustiz scharf verurteilt hatte. Im Zuge ihrer nächtlichen Unterredung fragt Luther den Rosshändler, ob dieser »Alles wohl erwogen« (DKV III, 80) nicht besser getan hätte, dem Junker zu vergeben und die dürren Rappen heimzuführen. Kohlhaas antwortet ihm: »kann sein! indem er ans Fenster trat: kann sein, auch nicht!« (DKV III, 80) Die Bewegung und die Worte seines Protagonisten hat Kleist an dieser Stelle aus Schillers ›Wallenstein‹ übernommen.
