Bei kulturellen Austauschprozessen spielt das Konzept der Transkulturation eine wichtige Rolle. In folgendem Kapitel wird seine Anwendbarkeit auf die kulturelle Verflechtung Japans mit dem Westen sowie das künstlerische Schaffen um 1900 geprüft.
