Zusammenfassung
Wie in der Erzählprosa hat Fontane auch in der Lyrik erst im Alter seine höchste künstlerische Stufe erreicht. Die späten Gedichte sind realistisch auf ihre eigene Weise.1 In ihnen verbindet sich Lebens- und Altersweisheit mit Zeit- und Gesellschaftskritik in scheinbar lässiger, jedoch kunstvoller Form: Sprüche, Skizzen, Momentaufnahmen und Reflexionen in lockeren Versen, parataktisch, offen für Umgangssprache.
