Abstract
Setting is a multifarious term in the context of English language education. In a very general sense it refers to the overall context and framework of foreign language learning and teaching. As such, it has many further synonyms which are likely to be used in other publications on English language teaching, for example background, environment, classroom, Lernumgebung or Lernort.
