Laßt mich, ihr Athener, einmal euch die Wahrheit sagen frei, lautre Wahrheit, beim Dionys, der mich großgezogen hat! So gewiß ich heute den Preis wünsch als Meister meiner Kunst, traun, so wahr ist’s, daß ich gebaut nur auf eure Kennerschaft und den Wert des komischen Stückes, das ich für mein bestes hielt, als ich euch zu kosten es bot, euch zuerst, dies Stück, das mir wohl die meiste Mühe gemacht! — Dennoch zog man plumpe Kerls unverdienterweise mir vor. — Dieses Unrecht klag ich euch weisen Kennern, denen zulieb ich mir all die Mühe gab.1
