Daß Der SPIRITUS FAMILIARIS des Roßtäuschers hier nicht innerhalb des Balladenkapitels erörtert wurde, bedarf spätestens an dieser Stelle seiner Begründung. Innerhalb der Forschung firmiert der SPIRITUS FAMILIARIS sowohl als Versepos (Hermand, 1958, S.59) wie als Ballade (Berglar, 1967, S.165; Hinck, 1968, S.86; Heselhaus, 1971, S.270f.), aber auch als balladisch-versepische Mischform: als »epische Ballade« oder als »balladenhaftes Epos« (Heselhaus, 1971, S.259; Sengle, 1980, S.614.)
