Zusammenfassung
Bereits Ende der 20er Jahre war die französische Literatur in einen allgemeinen Sog der Ideologisierung geraten. Die Autoren mußten einsehen, daß ihre Hoffnungen im Anschluß an den Ersten Weltkrieg, die großen politischen und sozialen Probleme würden sich nach dieser gewaltigen Erschütterung quasi automatisch, und das hieß: ohne ihre dezidierte Mitarbeit, lösen, enttäuscht worden waren. Die gesellschaftlichen Gegensätze hielten unvermindert an; die Weltwirtschaftskrise und der Siegeszug des Faschismus in Europa verschärften die akute Unruhe. Die Hinwendung zur Parteilichkeit und die Unterstützung von Kampfprogrammen wurde jetzt wieder in weiten Kreisen als Verpflichtung angesehen. In Frankreich begannen zwei ideologische Richtungen die literarische Szenerie zu beherrschen: der Neo-Katholizismus und die Literatur im Ein-flußbereich des Kommunismus.
