Zusammenfassung
Das bisher ehrgeizigste Projekt aus der Waliser Werkstatt des nimmermüden Peter Hunt (vgl. Hunt 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995) ist abgeschlossen, das Produkt auf dem Markt unter dem Titel International Companion Encyclopedia of Children’s Literature (Hunt 1996). Der Titel läßt eine Kreuzung aus Oxford Companion to Children’s Literature und Encyclopedia Britannica erwarten, doch handelt es sich hier nicht um ein Lexikon mit alphabetischen Eintragungen. Das Buch besteht vielmehr aus 86 Artikeln (plus Index) zu fast allen erdenklichen Aspekten der professionellen Beschäftigung mit Kinder- und Jugendliteratur: von der Definition von Kinderliteratur und Kindheit über ideologiekritische, rezeptionsanalytische, psychoanalytische und feministische Literaturkritik, Gattungen wie Märchen, Kinderreim, Bilderbuch, Tiergeschichten, Adoleszenzroman und Kinderzeitschriften bis zu Kinderbuch-Design, Zensur, Bibliotherapie und den Kinderliteraturen der ganzen Welt. Hunts Buch will also offenbar eine Art Bestandsaufnahme liefern: eine “Kinderliteratur im Aufriß” gewissermaßen, “a landmark, consonant with and responsive to the time of its appearance”, wie es im Einführungskapitel heißt (Margaret Meek, “Introduction”, 2).
