Zusammenfassung

Von den Haupttypen des spanischen bzw. europäischen Romans im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert (Ritter-, Schäfer- und Schelmenromane)1 zeichnet sich die novela picaresca durch ein besonderes Durchsetzungsvermögen aus. Das Genre hat sich zunächst durch frühe Übersetzungen in mehrere Fremdsprachen, dann aber auch durch Nachahmungen und selbständige Schöpfungen bis ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein behaupten können. Thomas Manns Felix Krull und Günter Grass’ Blechtrommel- um nur zwei Beispiele aus der jüngeren deutschen Literatur zu erwähnen — stellen den Beweis für seine Dynamik bzw. Weiterentwicklung bis in die Gegenwart dar.
