Zusammenfassung

Die englische Literatur brachte sowohl die erste Sentimental Novel (empfindsamer Roman) wie auch die erste Gothic Novel (Schauerroman) der europäischen Literatur hervor, wie überhaupt die gesamte Vorromantik als Liberalisierungsbewegung des — und später Emanzipationsbewegung vom — Klassizismus von den britischen Inseln ausging. Dabei war die Gothic Novel ein früher radikalromantischer Ableger der Sentimental Novel.
