Zusammenfassung

Das Wort ›Selektion‹ geht über das lateinische ›selectio‹ »Auswahl«, das sich bereits bei klassischen Autoren findet1, auf das Verb ›seligere‹ »absondern, auswählen« und die Grundform ›legere‹ »auflesen, sammeln« zurück. In der allgemeinen überlieferten lateinischen Bedeutung taucht »selection« Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts in der englischen Sprache auf.2
