Auf einer Konferenz zum Thema „Strategische Allianzen“ zehn Jahre nachdem das Buch „Cooperative Strategies in International Business“ veröffentlicht wurde, sagte Farok Contractor, einer der beiden Autoren des Buches, „10 years ago, only a small number of articles were published, now they very conservatively exceed a thousand, and may be double that. Google yields 1,042,000 entries for the search word Alliances“. Obwohl Akademiker immer mehr die Wichtigkeit des Aufbaus und der Erhaltung von Beziehungen zwischen Partnern in Allianzen betonen (Contractor/Lorange 1988; Parkhe 1993; Pearce 2001), wurden in den letzten Jahren verstärkt ökonomische Resultate dieser Beziehungsgeflechte verlangt (Smith/Caroll/Ashford 1995).
