Zusammenfassung

Im Gegensatz zu den anderen nordischen Ländern Dänemark, Schweden und Finnland ist Norwegen nicht Mitglied der Europäischen Union. Bei der Volksabstimmung über den Beitritt zur EU im November 1994 stimmten 52,2 Prozent der wahlberechtigten Bevölkerung dagegen. Die Mitgliedschaft in der EU wird wesentlich stärker von den norwegischen Frauen abgelehnt als von den norwegischen Männern. Im Gegensatz zur ersten Volksabstimmung (1972) wurde 1994 ein „gender gap“ registriert: „Women voted predominantly against, men were in favour.“1 Das unterschiedliche Abstimmungsverhalten der Geschlechter ist in der Differenz ihrer jeweiligen sozioökonomischen Position in der norwegischen Gesellschaft begründet, die auch politische Auswirkungen hat. Um diese politischen Implikationen der gesellschaftlichen Stellung von Frauen geht es in diesem Buch, und es lohnt sich, auch Norwegen mit einzubeziehen, denn: „Norway is the world champion of feminism — consider the facts.“2
