Abstract
Generic single user applications are often tailored cooperatively. Complex adaptations are carried out by power users and distributed to their colleagues. Nevertheless generic single user applications do not provide groupware support to share adaptations among its users. To analyze design requirements for such a tool we have carried out a qualitative empirical study on the cooperative tailoring habits of users of MS Word. The results are presented by means of four scenarios. Based on these scenarios, we have developed a tool which provides a public and a private repository for tailored artifacts as well as a mailing function. The tool is fully integrated into the user interface of the word processor. Results of a usability test indicate that users of different levels of qualification are able to handle the tool.
