Zusammenfassung

Nach der Unabhängigkeit von Spanien (1821) sowie dem kurzzeitigen Anschluß an Mexiko (1822/23) erklärte eine Verfassunggebende Versammlung in Guatemala am 1. Juli 1823 gegenüber Spanien, Mexiko und jeder anderen politischen Macht die Unabhängigkeit Zentralamerikas. In Nicaragua wurde die Erklärung am 1. Oktober 1823 ratifiziert. Bis 1838 war Nicaragua Teil der Zentralamerikanischen Föderation.
