Mean Spherical Approximation for the Thermodynamics of Partially Ionized and Strongly Coupled Plasmas

Abstract

The combined action of Coulomb attraction and short-range repulsion between the atoms and ions in a dense plasma is described within the mean spherical approximation (MSA). We propose modifications of the original MSA results to account for the reduced volume effect and further electronic contributions to the thermodynamic functions. A numerical example is provided for the composition and the equation of state of Xe plasma.
