Zusammenfassung

Bei dieser Laserkategorie liegt das aktive Medium in gas- oder dampfförmiger Phase vor. Die meisten Gase, insbesondere Edelgase, eignen sich als Lasermedium. Jedes von ihnen liefert mehrere Laserübergänge. So sind z.B. von Ne über 180 Laserlinien bekannt. Die Emissionsbereiche erstrecken sich vom UV bis in den Submillimeterwellenbereich. Die Gaslaser umfassen Neutralatom- (z.B. He-Ne, Metalldampf), Ionen- (z.B. Ar+), Molekül- (z.B. CO2) und Excimerlaser (z.B. KrF). Gaslaser besitzen eine Reihe von Eigenschaften, die sie für Anwendungen in Industrie und Forschung besonders geeignet machen.
