Die deutschen Einfuhrzölle sind Gebietszölle im Gegensatz zu Grenz- oder Passierzöllen. Das bedeutet, dass nicht das Überschreiten der Grenze für die Entrichtung des Zolls entscheidend ist, sondern der Übergang der Auslandsware in die deutsche Wirtschaft.
