Es sind nun schon mehr als 20 Jahre her, seit Hamilton Soley (7 und 8), Hertz, Roberts und Evans (9) als erste radioaktives Jod zur Erforschung der pathologischen Schilddrüsenfunktion angewandt haben. Die Methode wurde von zahlreichen Klinikern aufgegriffen.
