Zusammenfassung

Seit den frühesten Zeiten stellen die Tropenländer in gesundheitlicher Beziehung etwas Besonderes dar, sie haben einer ganzen Gruppe von Krankheiten einen Namen gegeben, den Tropenkrankheiten. Mit dieser Besonderheit wurde auch die erste Phase der Beziehungen zwischen Europa und den Tropenländern überschattet, indem die Tropen früher als „das Grab des weißen Mannes“ bezeichnet wurden. In dieser ersten Phase ging der Europäer in die Tropen, ohne seine Familie mitzunehmen. Erst vor 50 Jahren hat sich in den Beziehungen zwischen Deutschen und den Tropenländern der Standpunkt durchgesetzt, auch seine Familie mitnehmen zu können. Rodenwaldt 1 schildert es in seinem Buch „Ein Tropenarzt erzählt sein Leben“ sehr eindringlich.
