Abstract
The purpose of this list is uncertain. The two letters at the end of each line could be expanded to πí(περι), pepper, but πι(ττάκιοv) seems a more likely expansion. In the latter case, we have a parallel to our papyrus in P.Rain. Cent. 158 (sixth cent., unknown provenance), a γωîó(σι ϛ) ει() ἐvταγíωv(1. 2), which lists in lines 3-33 πά(ττάκια), with indications of date and amounts of money. If our papyrus is another such register of πάττάκια,1 it might have come from the hands of a farm steward, whose duty it was, among other things, to collect and keep the πάττάκια of every financial transaction on his estate.2
