Abstract

In Chapter 1, we discussed that, although there is a large body of empirical studies into young people’s leisure activities in the Netherlands, few studies have examined issues that are interesting from a theoretical point of view. The question of whether, during the transition from childhood into adolescence, changes occur in juveniles’ leisure patterns has rarely been studied, so far. Also, little is know about how pre-structured juveniles’ leisure time is, as a result of leisure club participation. These questions form the central themes of the subsequent chapter.
