Zusammenfassung

Koronare Herzkrankheiten (KHK) und andere kardiovaskuläre Krankheiten sind die führenden Todesursachen für Frauen in den Vereinigten Staaten. Unter kardiovaskulären Krankheiten werden all die Krankheiten verstanden, die im Zusammenhang mit den Herz- oder Blutgefäßen stehen. Sie schließen die koronare Herzkrankheit (KHK), den Schlaganfall, erhöhten Blutdruck und Herzinsuffizienz ein. Diese Krankheiten stellen für beide Geschlechter wichtige Todesursachen dar; trotzdem weiß man wenig über die unterschiedliche Betroffenheit von Frauen und Männern durch diese Erkrankungen. Ergebnisse der Framingham Studie, einer prospektiven Langzeituntersuchung, zeigen, daß die koronaren Herzkrankheiten bei Frauen stärker altersbedingt sind als bei Männern. In der höchsten Altersgruppe (75 bis 84 Jahre) sind sie 40mal häufiger als bei den jüngeren Frauen (35 bis 44 Jahre) (Lerner & Kannel 1986). Durch die Verschiebung der Alterspyramide in unserer Bevölkerung kann folglich damit gerechnet werden, daß koronare Herzkrankheiten ein zunehmend ernstes Problem für Frauen darstellen werden. Männer und Frauen unterscheiden sich im Hinblick auf die Morbidität, Mortalität und die Genesung von KHK. Gründe dafür sind in geschlechtsspezifischen Unterschieden, im natürlichen Verlauf der Krankheit, bei der Diagnose und Behandlung, im jeweiligen Gesundheitsverhalten und bei den psychosozialen Faktoren zu suchen.
