Zusammenfassung
Nach der Befreiung von der spanischen Kolonialherrschaft scheiterten die Integrationspläne des Anführers der Unabhängigkeitsbewegung, Simón Bolívar. In den spanisch-amerikanischen Ländern setzte ein „Balkanisierungsprozeß“ ein (Kahle 1981: 37). Nur in Brasilien entstand ein, wenn auch stark dezentralisierter, Großstaat.
