Zusammenfassung

Es herrscht wieder einmal Krieg, wenn man den einschlägigen Veröffentlichungen und Internet-Seiten glauben darf. Es handelt sich dabei glücklicherweise nicht um einen Krieg, dem Menschen zum Opfer fallen, es handelt sich um einen Wissenschaftskrieg. Zwischen den Sozial- und Humanwissenschaften einerseits und den Naturwissenschaften wird in der jüngsten Zeit ein massiver Konflikt ausgetragen. Angestoßen durch eine als ernsthafte Publikation getarnte Veröffentlichung des Physikers Alan Sokal in der angesehenen Zeitschrift Social Text, in der Floskeln und Begründungen sogenannter postmoderner Theoretiker in einen mehr oder minder sinnlosen Zusammenhang gestellt wurden, streiten sich die Kontrahenten seither über die Frage, ob sozialwissenschaftliche Theorie überhaupt Wissenschaft sein kann (vgl. Sokal/Bricmont 1999).
