Zur Übertragung und Speicherung von Audiosignalen sind neben der linearen PCM-Darstellung verschiedene Verfahren zur Datenkompression untersucht worden. Die Datenkompression läßt sich in zwei Bereiche aufteilen: die verlustlose und die verlustbehaftete Datenkompression.
