Die westeuropäischen Gesellschaften im Vergleich

Zusammenfassung

Integration meint das Hinzu- oder Zusammenfügen einzelner Teile zu einem verbundenen Ganzen. Sie bezeichnet sowohl den Grad der Verbundenheit als auch den Prozeß, durch den die Elemente vereint werden, oder, im Fall von Desintegration, die Einheit auseinanderfällt (Teune 1984). Insbesondere die zweite Betrachtungsweise entspricht der Verwendung des Begriffs im Kontext der Europäischen Union. Integration bezeichnet demzufolge das Entstehen einer neuen, mehrere Nationalstaaten umfassenden, politischen und ökonomischen Einheit. Unter sozialer Integration versteht man in diesem Zusammenhang meist die soziale Dimension des europäischen Binnenmarkts, d.h. seine sozialpolitische Unterfütterung, die Abstimmung nationaler Sozialpolitiken und die Herausbildung gemeinschaftlicher Sozialinstitutionen.
