Zusammenfassung
When talking about an “education gap” between Euroamerican and Third World countries we can distinguish between three types of gap, namely
-
1)
provisions, such as teacher competence, especially subject matter competence, class size, school buildings and classrooms, books per child, and percentage going to school,
-
2)
throughput, such as dropout rate, attempts to use informal or non-formal education to compensate for not attending regular school, retention of literacy during the years when children more or less regularly are attending school,
-
3)
outputs, level of competence achieved after a certain number of years of formal schooling.
