Zusammenfassung

Das politische System Portugals ist im 20. Jahrhundert durch eine wechselvolle Geschichte unterschiedlicher politischer Regime geprägt worden. Die Metamorphose der Staatsformen verlief über die konstitutionelle Monarchie (1820–1910), eine instabile, semidemokratische, parlamentarische Republik (1910–1917), eine kurze Militärdiktatur (1917–1918), die Wiederherstellung der parlamentarisch-demokratischen Republik (1918–1926), eine erneute Diktatur unter einer zerstrittenen Militärjunta (1926–28), eine Militärdiktatur mit zivilen Ministern (1928–1932), dem autoritär-korporatistischen System des Estado Novo (1933–1974) (Oliveira Marques 31986; Ferrao 1976) und schließlich der ersten voll entwickelten Demokratie (seit 1975), die sich ihrerseits 1982 von einer semipräsidentiellen zu einer parlamentarischen Regierungsform wandelte.
