Zusammenfassung

Kanada ist hinter der Sowjetunion das Land mit der zweitgrößten Grundfläche. Auf diesem riesigen Territorium, das etwa 4,5mal so groß ist wie das aller Staaten der Europäischen Gemeinschaft zusammen, wohnt allerdings nur ein Drittel der Bevölkerung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Wirtschaftliche und klimatische Ausgangslagen gestalten die Lebensbedingungen in den einzelnen Regionen sehr unterschiedlich. Diese Lebensbedingungen und vor allem das Vorbild Großbritanniens — für Quebec Frankreichs — haben zu spezifischen Ausprägungen des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenlebens und der politischen Strukturen geführt, die sich mit den Stichworten „Kabinettsregierung“, „Föderalismus“ und „Multikulturalismus“ kennzeichnen lassen.

Der Diplomarbeit von Johann Lüppen „New Brunswick und Newfoundland — Ein Vergleich“, Oldenburg 1988 verdanke ich viele Anregungen für Konzeption und Einzelheiten der Darstellung.
